If my avatar wears a DKNY shirt I am likely to buy and wear the same DKNY shirt
OR
If I wear DKNY I'm likely to dress my avatar in DKNY?

Let's see, when do grown-ups wear the brands of their kids vs. kids' being dressed in the grown-ups' brands?

To begin with, I think we'll have brand extensions (from real to virtual), then pure virtual brands will emerge and possibly extend into real... Speculation on the nature of such extensions can be made by analogy to newspapers and/vs. blogs.

Now something for lawyers: Can I take the 1st Amendment to the virtual world and (have my avatar) use it against a competing brand?
